Fall is here — season of mists and mellow fruitfulness, as Keats called it — and we’re getting ready for our upcoming Christmas/Holiday shows. We’ve also been in the studio putting together the first tracks of a new CD. We got seven pieces recorded as rough tracks and are considering what else to put on this, our ninth outing. We’re all writing or searching for new material, so there may be some surprises coming up. It’s been a while since the last CD, Three Days in May and we’re looking forward to bringing out something very cool. We will keep you updated.
During April and May of 2015 we had a new adventure, performing as the on-stage band for the musical theater production A Man of No Importance. Based on the 1994 film of the same name, the story is set in Dublin in 1964 and tells a tale about bus driver Alfie Byrne's amateur theatrical group, his friendships, and his secrets. It's a warm and compassionate play, with many social and cultural resonances for today. The music is interesting, too; it's definitely not traditional Irish music, but the composer has managed to draw in elements of that to make the orchestration (in this case, Colcannon with additional offstage keyboards and percussion) make perfect sense. The production is at the Arvada Center for the Arts and Humanities in Arvada CO and runs through mid-May 2015. Links for tickets and more info are on the calendar page.
